Equal opportunities and diversity awareness
1 or 2 days
Workshop outline
This workshop aims to raise levels of awareness with respect to the importance of and differences between equal opportunities and diversity. This is in line with the government's requirement that organisations build equality considerations into all policies, programmes and actions. The course refers to race, gender, sexual orientation and disability, and then concentrates on individual differences, (such as age, family status, education, etc). It also explores the current legislative framework in the UK and EC. The workshop is designed to give staff the confidence to challenge unacceptable behaviour, understand the importance of equality and diversity in the wider context linked to their role and contribute to creating a positive work environment.
Key learning points:
- Reach a good understanding of the concept of managing diversity and how it complements equal opportunities
- Develop an awareness of the legislation that underpins equality and diversity, and future legislative trends
- Understand the impact of discrimination and challenge unacceptable behaviours effectively
- Identify actions to work with and manage equality and diversity as individuals, within a team and as part of the organisation, as well as considering how to monitor progress within the organisation
- Develop a personal action plan, which will help create a positive work environment
