Workshop outline
This course teaches an understanding of the “what, when and how” of delegation. Participants learn to appreciate the purpose and importance of delegation and gain knowledge of the process of delegation, from start to finish. They leave the workshop knowing how to enhance their delegation skills, use effective skills when delegated tasks do not go to plan and how to overcome other barriers at work that affect our ability to perform well.

People who manage others.

Pre-course
Decide what aspect of delegation you would most like to enhance your knowledge of. Consider what you believe to be the most difficult part of delegation.


Workshop content

Introduction
Course content and objectives are outlined and participants' expectations are understood.
Why delegate?

Putting delegation into context. The purpose of delegation, how it fits in to making the company more competitive and responsive to clients’ needs. Where it fits in with your own set of priorities at work. The consequences of not delegating well, gaining a commitment to knowing and using the delegation skills.
How to delegate successfully
Knowing the procedures for effective delegation, so the risks and difficulties often experienced can be minimised or avoided. Learning to make delegation fruitful and beneficial for the delegator, delegate and the company.
Practical session
A practical session in which the skills of giving both positive and negative feedback are discussed and practised. In particular, this session looks at confronting poor performance, setting standards, the importance of mistakes, how to be supportive and still achieve good quality work from the department.
Implementing delegation
Making delegation work for you. Managing other hurdles to successful delegation. This session looks at sorting out boundaries, taking responsibility, managing one's time to be able to delegate, the role of a leader, looking ahead, planning and developing yourself and the team.
Action session
Participants summarise what they will implement as a result of attending.
